Opening the lid of a "hope chest" or "glory box" as they were commonly named and peering inside was an exciting time for many young women in the 1950s, but said tradition has sadly been forgotten by many. Thrifty Dining have reinvented the hope chest for the 21st century to help young adults (or anyone for that matter) set up their home fast and cheap!
 
If you've found yourself in a position where you are "starting from scratch" or moving into your very first home, many will sympathise with the pain of having to gather all those little things that seem insignificant until your first night when you suddenly realise you have been so busy organising the "big stuff" you forgot you needed a frypan to cook your dinner. Maybe you reach for a glass of water and remember you don't have glasses yet, or even worse.... Toilet paper!
 
A Ruby Box (named after Dorothy's ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz, because after all - "there's no place like home") is designed to not only save you the hassle and time of shopping around for all of the homemaker essentials, but we save your pennies too! Our boxes are made up of a mixture of secondhand, good quality kitchenalia (such as a frypan, pot, glassware, cutlery) and brand new essentials like garbage bags, soap, matches ect. 
 
It goes without saying that each Ruby Box contains different items as they are made up of predominantly secondhand goods and photos of said boxes are as a guide only. But we try our very best to ensure each box has a fair distribution of the essentials that everyone requires to get them through their house warming stage. Classic needs such as those mentioned above are always included and it's important to note that we compose each box with thought and care and utterly enjoy doing so.
 
And we haven't even mentioned the best part yet. It's unlikely you will find many secondhand shops in Adelaide where you can purchase a frypan using Afterpay, let alone how many thrift stores you'd need to visit to find everything! But with our Ruby Boxes, Afterpay is accepted.
 
Ruby Boxes are made to order and free delivery to any Adelaide metro area is included in the price. We can normally have your box delivered on your move in day, or prior to this if preferred. Deliveries are made between 7am and 7pm on your chosen day and if you are unavailable to receive them, we can leave them in a save spot of your choosing (with your permission). You also have the option of collecting your Ruby Box from our location in Kidman Park (Western Adelaide).
